Our Footprint

Treat the earth well. It was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children”

With that in mind Doodlebug is committed to maintaining a sustainable practice that not only benefits you and your child, but the world they will grow up in. The ways we do this are varied, to start with, our website is proudly certified carbon neutral. We don’t mind letting you know that we take measures to maintain ethical fashion production, choose sustainable resources and develop and implement environmentally conscious business strategies.

Doodlebug clothing uses eco friendly fabric made from sustainable bamboo yarn. Bamboo is an amazing luxury eco fabric of modern times. Once you feel how soft and comfortable bamboo clothing is, you won’t want to wear anything else. Often compared to silk and cashmere the quality fabric has a beautiful drape and feels buttery soft against the skin. Because the fibers have smooth round ends (without use of chemicals to achieve this) it reduces irritation, making it especially suitable for those with eczema or sensitive skin, such as babies. The fabric is hypoallergenic, breathable and thermal regulating. That means warm in winter and cool in summer. It has an incredible absorbent ability, wicking away moisture and body odour up to 4 times as much as cotton. There is even evidence to suggest bamboo fabric has antibacterial properties!

Not only is the fabric amazing for us, but its a brilliant choice for the environment. A sustainable resource - bamboo grows like crazy (it grows between 30cm -1m a day!) without the need for fertilizers, pesticides or much water and does not require replanting. Bamboo produces about 30% more oxygen than an equivalent plantation of trees, and absorbs about 5 times the amount of carbon dioxide.

Bamboo in all its forms might one day soon be one of the most important plants in the world.

Our range of unique stationery is screen printed on real cherry wood sourced entirely from renewable plantations. Wood is one of the most abundant and versatile renewable resources on earth. Its main characteristic is that it is renewable, unlike the other resources such as iron ores, petroleum and coal. It has been utilized by man since the earliest days of human existence. The guiding principle is that you plant more trees than you cut. For every tree that is felled to make a doodlebug postcard, bookmark or gift tag, another five are planted and grown. How about that for social forestry.

Doodlebug clothes are designed and developed in Australia, employing local pattern makers, sewers and screen printers. We wish to stimulate our economy and lower our carbon toll on the environment by undertaking minimal shipping and travelling. We believe its important to support local artists and businesses rather than see big brand multinationals make yet another rubbish t shirt with yet another princess splashed all over the front. We’ve got your back if you’ve got ours.

There is so much waste involved in running a business. Every day we here at doodlebug challenge ourselves to come up with better, more efficient, environmentally conscientious ways of doing things. This involves using electronic catalogues, printing promotional materials on recycled paper with soy based inks, reusing bags and getting rid of excessive packaging. Even our hang tags are made from bamboo wood with hopes of being re used as necklaces, magnets, key rings, christmas tree decorations....!

We must actively address the way we interact with our surroundings.

Doodlebug is the logical and ethical choice
